Dr Chiew was an anesthetist while I worked at Bankstown. He was always one of the best anaesthetists I have worked with. He would allow me to operate on patients that few other anaesthetists would allow. This was of great benefit to these patients. Being from the UK and getting divorced in 2005, I had no person responsible or interested in my welfare.I underwent a painful divorce and When I failed to arrive for a operation, Dr Chiew instigated people to ring me. When I arrived, he had the telephone in his hand with the police on the other end looking for me. No-one has ever expressed that amount of concern for me in Australia. We cracked jokes about it in December 2007 and looked forward to working together in 2008. Unfortunately, mother nature robbed us of that. I deeply regret his tragic passing not only as a colleauge but also a friend. He always spoke of his family in great regard and was always a complete professional. It is truely a sad loss to his family and the profession. I hope Dr chiew and his family can find respite in the fact that he died while preparing his retirement. His whole aim was to spend time with his family.
My deepest sympathies are with his family, especially his daughter in the UK. I am sorry that chiewy has been taken from us. It is really a sad, tragic loss to us all. I hope we can all support each other in the future months
