Susan
my sincere condolences to you for your loss. I worked with James for quite a few years and enjoyed his company on many occasions. I will never forget the fabulous time that Margaret and I had with James for a few days in Paris... we had a ball.
My best wishes for Friday
regards

My condolences, this is such a loss. I remember having a great time with James and his barbeque- he taught me how to grill squid with pepper. Such a lovely man and fun to be around. I really regret not spending enough time with him.

Some twenty years have passed since I first met James. Now as we all can, I cherish the memories from years now passed. James transformed over those years from a "whining pomm" with a wicked sense of humour to "Aussie Jimâ€. With his bronze tan and bleached hair, he would whiz down the road in his sports car to his boat, let the fish be aware! The transformation, makeover, metamorphous was complete, but it was not overnight, there was training involved to become an Australian.
I remember visiting Sue & James at Holt in the West Country, cooking sausages on the BBQ, all part of his education for his future life “Down Underâ€. Our visit to Morgan Motor Company, the dreams of owning a sports car, all he needed was a sunny country. He enjoyed his life Down Under adapting quickly to local ways, but there was one thing that remained deeply planted in England’s green fields, the stubborn refusal to let go his English sporting roots. The sheer joy James experienced at England winning the Rugby World Cup in 2003 and then the shock Ashes victory in 2005. So proud he was as he wrapped himself in the Union Jack and he “sang†Jerusalem on the phone to me from 12,000 kms.
James, you will be sadly missed by all of us, no more so than by Susan who was such a dedicated and loving wife over all those years.

I will miss James. We grew up together in Somerset and I have fond memories of many adventures together as children (and adults!). Give him a good send off on Friday.
I am not normally stuck for works (as you may well know) but I am today.

This is how I will remember James, Notting Hill, long hair, Jethro Tull, Bath, flat painting, Stairway to Heaven playing, laughing at sick jokes, the motorbike, the hamsters (one got squashed!) the letter I wrote before he left to travel, the letter I wrote as he came to the end of his life. Our youth. And knowing, deep down, he loved me.

We first met James and Susan at Wendy's place and immediately recognised in him another Australianised pom, as indeed we are. His humour was evident right from the start. He was always a warm-hearted generous soul and I will never forget the kindess both James and Susan showed me over Christmas 2006. Pete was in Sudan and I was 'home alone' in a rented property out in the sticks, having sold the house in preparation for our return to the UK after 18 years in Oz. Zoe (cocker spaniel) and I stayed over and we went for walks on the beach and had a proper English-style Christmas dinner. Zoe and Maggie played together the whole time. We will miss James very much and hope Susan to see you over here at some point. Sending you loads of love from across the globe.

I met James through my husband Max. They had grown up together in Somerset, England. I heard many childhood stories of friends getting into (mild) trouble together and naughtiness. James was our bestman at our wedding. We have lovely photos of him on the wedding day, some with him looking slightly terrified! Such as the bestman's speech. He visited us as we moved around the country with work. We always had a good time and shared a lot of laughter. James was warm hearted and had a positive outlook on life, even for a wingeing pom. I have many fond memories of meals together in country pubs and walks in the country with James and Susan. He will be greatly missed. All my love xxx

It was James who invented Wendy Woo, forwarded my mail for 9 years and always rustled up a roast with trimmings whenever I made it to Sydney. He welcomed David, Lani and Tynn as they each made their appearance - celebratory BBQs by the dozen and picnics in all sorts of extreme weather. Our family will miss Uncle James dearly. Rest easy my friend.
