John Henry Stubbs, known to many as JACK, passed away peacefully at Westmead Hospital on Tuesday 11th September 2007 at the age of 86yrs. He was late of Carlingford.
JACK was born on the 1st August 1921 in Sydney to Thomas and Elizabeth (nee Roberts). At the age of 29yrs he married his sweetheart Hilda Knight in Summerhill. They had three daughters, Anne, Evelyn and Helen.
On the 29th April 1940, JACK enlisted into the Army at Croydon. NX13581 Stubbs attained the rank of Corporal, proudly serving his country through the war years until his discharge on 22nd November 1945 whilst a member of 2/1 AUST RY CONS COY.
For 60 years, JACK was the Secretary for his Railway Engineers Company Association, and for some 17 years he was seen regularly in his old Valiant car, at the Army Engineering Museum at Steele Barracks, Moorebank, where he was a popular and hard working volunteer at the Museum up until very recently.
JACK was a loving husband to Hilda, dear father and father in law to Anne and David, Evelyn (deceased) and Bob, Helen (deceased) and Peter. He was a proud grandfather to his 8 grandchildren and to his 2.5 great grandchildren. JACK will be very sadly missed by all his family and dear mates.
