Joseph John Francis Zammit was born on June 1st 1931 in the town of B’Kara on the Island of Malta. Dad was the fourth child of nine to Angelo & Concetta. Times where tough when Dad was a young boy and he was often hungry, so being the mischievous boy he was, he would antagonise the old farmers and pinch fruit from their orchards.
When Dad was just 17 years of age, he decided to leave Malta and immigrate to Australia, so he left his family, boarded a ship by the name of Msir and arrived in Sydney in 1949 with only a brown paper bag in hand. Immediately Dad then had to travel to Battle Fair Far Nth Queensland by train to begin working hard on a cane farm.
In June 1955 Dad married mom, Connie Bezzina at Paddington Sydney and they had two children, myself & my brother Leeno. Dad worked on a market garden with his wife & his in laws for a while at Eastern Creek NSW.
In 1963 Dad decided to move to Canada where his parents, brothers & sisters now lived, there Dad often worked two jobs to support his family.
In 1983 Dad wanted to move yet again, this time back to Australia, & soon after retired & moved further up, to the Central Coast of NSW where he passed the time enjoying fishing & gardening. By this time Dad became a grandfather and also a great grandfather.
Dad, we will always remember how much you loved your food and your incredible sense of humour, you had a way of making people laugh.
We love you and we will always miss you. Rest in Peace Dad.
