Jean's friends are invited to join her family for a service to be conducted by Bishop Hamstead. Friends are asked to join the family in remembering a devoted wife, wonderful mother and role model to her many friends.
Jamie, Jan and Jeff will accompany their father Jim, to a place dear to the families heart, Hill End. It is here Jean will rest to the sounds of the native birds and the breeze from the hills in a place she fell in love with years ago.
Her family, friends and students say "Thank You"
Jean became well known in Penrith and the Blue Mountains for her teaching of music and language, which she has done since 1950. In 2003 Jean was recognised for her service to the community with her inclusion on the Penrith City Council Wall of Achievement. She helped the Cripple Children's School from 1964 to 1975, where she produced and directed performances such as The Sound of Music. Until last year Jean was teaching several language classes each week with U3A.
Jim and Jean moved to Penrith in 1949 from England after the war where Jean spent time as a nurse. From 1955 to 1991 Jean sang in local choirs and was involved in theatre for charities. In the 60's Jean began teaching music and Italian at Penrith Evening College. Her music class ran for 22 years making it the longest running class to be held.
Jean taught from home for 30 years. She gained a Bachelor of Arts (Honours in French and Italian) and a Master of Letters (Italian) at Armidale University. Until last year Jean also taught French, Spanish, Scots Gaelic and Modern Hebrew at University.
Jean leaves behind her husband of 60 years, Jim and their three children James, Janice and Jeffrey and six Grandchildren.
